To be honest this is one of the most common questions that I get asked! Mainly people want to know if matters or if I think they should have an engagement session. Well I’m about to spill the tea so keep reading!

I want to start by saying that ultimately this decision is up to the couple and I will support whatever that couple decides. BUT I do have some thoughts on this topic! I am and will always be in favor of having an engagement session with your wedding photographer. And here is why:

1. The biggest reason is because it ensures that you and your person are so much more comfortable in front of the camera on your wedding day! Most people don’t have professional photos taken very often so this session is kind of like practice for your big day! Some people also feel a little awkward kissing or showing PDA in front of a stranger at first. Being a wedding photographer, I have seen so many people kiss, hug, hold hands, etc. in public – to me this is normal! Haha But when I was a bride I had those same feelings.

2. An engagement session takes that pressure off! It allows us both to get comfortable with each other and lets us get to know each other better. Besides your new spouse, your photographer will most likely be the one person you spend the most time with on your wedding day.  This session is a chance fo us to swap stories and share some laughs! This session is geared towards you and it’s another way to capture this season of life you are in.

3. Plus, they are super fun and gives you so many beautiful options for the save the dates, wedding website, or even a guest book! You will have professional photos to use for a number of different wedding purposes!

In the end, however it looks for each couple is great! I have couples who want them and I have couples that decide against them. And you know what? There is no right or wrong answer! Each couple is different and I think that decision is completely up to them!
