When I was getting married I remember stalking the heck out of the weather. Even if all I could look at was the farmer’s almanac, it eased my mind to look at something weather related. Then once I was two weeks out, I was looking at the forecast every day. And guess what? It was calling for rain. So trust me when I say that I get it. No one wants rain on their wedding day no matter if it’s a drizzle or a downpour, but it’s no reason to get too upset about it. I mean, you still get to marry your best friend! So today I am sharing a few tips on what to do if it rains on your wedding day. Here we go!
1. Buy Umbrellas!
Since we live in the Midwest, I ALWAYS have 10 clear bubble umbrellas in my trunk in case of a pop up shower. (All my Midwest friends, you know what I’m talkin’ about. J) I know the idea of these in your pictures doesn’t sound great, but I promise you that these can turn out super cute! Plus, grabbing some super romantic images of you and your man all cuddled up underneath an umbrella is never a bad idea. Definitely talk to your photographer before you buy these because they might already have some, but I can’t tell you how many times these have come in handy on wedding day.
2. Have a Backup Plan
When talking to your photographer about where you want to take portraits, always make sure to discuss having a covered location just in case of rain. This could be anything from finding an inside location, some beautiful archways in a downtown area, or even an overhang or awning of a building.
3. Trust your Vendors
Hiring vendors you trust is such an important detail that I will forever talk about and this situation is no different. Talk with them and find out how rain will affect your wedding day. I can almost guarantee that most vendors have dealt with rainy wedding days, especially photographers. They will be prepared and know what adjustments to make sure your day still goes smoothly.
4. Go with the Flow
Besides the normal adjustments and plans in case of rain, ready yourself emotionally. Brides and Grooms spend months planning their wedding down to the very last detail, but just keep in mind that some things are out of your control. Know that laughter is the best medicine. Know that your photos will still be amazing. Chances are that even if it does rain, there will be a break where you can grab some photos, but don’t be afraid to dance in the rain! 🙂
Remember that rain or shine, you will still be marrying the love of your life! I hope this was helpful! If you have any questions on this topic, please drop them below! I am all ears and here to help you!
xoxo
